Accustomed to sporting challenges of all kinds, I recently decided to take on a new type of challenge. Which I had been putting off for too long. In order to broaden my audience and not be limited in transmitting my message of resilience, I had been considering adapting my conference into English for a while. However, even before taking the steps, it seemed insurmountable.

Limiting thoughts

This is not a new concept, limiting thoughts are these mental barriers that we impose on ourselves. I don't have enough charisma to be a good manager, I can't take care of this project because I'm not creative enough or I'm bad at English, I will never be able to adapt my conference in this language . Indeed, I was apprehensive about tackling this challenge, which was more intellectual than the others. How could I successfully convey the same emotions in a foreign language, with the right intonations?

These limiting thoughts discourage us before we even begin or during the learning process. They imply that we should only focus on what we already know how to do. However, it is important to become aware of these negative thoughts that hold us back and focus on more positive formulas. For example, it is more motivating to say to yourself: “Of course, I am not very good at English, but if I work regularly, there is no reason why I cannot do it”. As in all areas, and in particular sport in which I have developed a lot, the main thing is to get started and dare to take the plunge.

Unblocking

I procrastinated on this project for a long time. I never had time, it wasn't my priority because ultimately, I was afraid of not being able to do it. And then in March, there was this first confinement. I was forced to put my activity on hold. No more excuses. I told myself it was now or never and set myself a deadline of September 2020.

After having my lecture translated and then modulating it in my own words, I forced myself to learn one paragraph per week. I recited tirelessly for months. Little by little, I realized that it wasn't so insurmountable and that I could do it. It is often taking action that allows us to realize that it is possible and that we can go beyond what we initially thought.

Today, after having produced my first TedX in English A Strong mindset for a life without resentment, in Toulouse in front of 300 people, I can say that I succeeded in my challenge. This is proof that apart from sporting challenges, I can also set myself other goals. And this is the case for everyone, provided you adopt the right mindset

Of course !
