From November 16 to 22, 2020, European Disability Employment Week will take place. Even today, it is necessary to move away from prejudices about disability in the workplace.

DISABILITY IS NOT A FATALITY

Before my accident, I didn't know that disability week existed. To be honest, I didn't know either the difficulties that people with disabilities may encounter in their work. However, these are very present.

Even though, since 2005, the law has required companies to make their premises accessible to all, much effort still remains to be made in this domain. Additional costs, administrative procedures… Added to all this is the main obstacle to hiring: fear of disability and its effect on employee morale.

Disability Week highlights these clichés that affect us all and helps us overcome them. These few days allow able-bodied people to become aware of the daily lives of disabled people and, in this way, encourage them to take initiatives.

YES, WE ARE EFFICIENT

Last January, I competed in the 2020 Dakar alongside able-bodied people. This experience is for me proof that it is possible to combine disability and performance.

“Do I really have reason to complain about my little hassle when my colleague always shows positivity? »

Beyond the fact that a disabled person is just as capable of working as an able-bodied person, they can also contribute to motivate your employees. By accepting the other, by organizing business seminars, your employees will also demonstrate resilience. In reality, disability, particularly in business, is a taboo that we all need to help break.
