When I was a motocross champion, my life was punctuated by intensive training and weekly trips to competitions in France or abroad. At that time, I only considered happiness through the prism of my victories and my good sporting results. However, I had little time left to enjoy other things. Following my accident in 2010, I spent almost a year and a half in a rehabilitation center: surrounded but as if out of this world, relentless but also very often full of doubts. My paraplegia forced me to change my paradigm.

People I meet at my conferences have a hard time believing that I can now live a fulfilling life, despite my disability. The day I returned home after my rehabilitation, I was ecstatic at the mere idea of sleeping in my own bed, being able to lie down in the garden and enjoy all the little things that I had missed so much. My reconstruction was not only physical: I became aware that suffering was intrinsic to life, natural and that it was above all the main driver for making the most positive changes. Thus, I realized that happiness does not consist in avoiding pain, which is biologically indispensable and allows us to learn from our mistakes. I realized that personal development depends on the way we understand and resolve the problems that we inevitably encounter on our path. Because let's not lie to ourselves, life is a succession of problems, which are of a variable nature for each person. When I won titles and trophies, my problem was to work to win the next competition again. Now, the nature of my problems has obviously changed. They consist of daring to speak in public to share my experience with as many people as possible, organizing myself to spend more time with my loved ones and in contact with nature, and succeeding in my professional reconversion.

Today, motor sports and swimming are still part of my daily life. However, I am much less attached to results and trophies: I would gladly give up all my titles to be able to recover the use of my legs. I have learned to fill my daily life differently and I wish to engage as a professional speaker to share with you about surpassing oneself and the inspiration to lead a serene existence despite the trials. My journey has taught me that happiness lies in our ability to put problems into perspective in order to resolve them satisfactorily. Far from being simple, it is nevertheless essential to take a step back from the details that clutter us up and prevent us from living in harmony with our body and mind. I understood that to cope with my paraplegia, I had to redefine the framework of the "problems" that I wanted to resolve in my everyday life. My vision of things is obviously not universal, but I wish to spread the idea that it is always possible to put things into perspective in order to find one's path to happiness.

Axel.
